Paul Bergner 2007

90 minutes 1.5 CEU credits

Any plant with medicinal properties has possible side effects; the very action of the herb on the physiology that is curative may produce an imbalance. Medicinal plants with little potential to cause side effects are the exception rather than the rule. We describe the types of adverse effects affecting a patient, and give details for Echinacea, Hydrastis (goldenseal), Panax ginseng, Eleutherococcus (Siberian ginseng), Valerian, Glycyrrhiza (Licorice), Astragalus, Ginkgo, Vitex (chaste-berry), Scutellaria, Hypericum (St Johnswort), Angelica sinensis (Dang gui), Chrysanthemum parthenium (Feverfew), Symphytum (Comfrey),Trifolium (red clover), Cimicifuga/Actaea (black cohosh), Ligusticum (Osha), Lobelia, Serenoa (Saw Palmetto), and Lomatium.
